Trudie Broekmann is a commercial attorney with twenty-something years’ practice experience, both as an attorney in private practice and in the role of in-house legal advisor.  She is an expert on new business legislation, such as the Consumer Protection Act, Companies Act, National Credit Act and the Protection of Personal Information Act.

She is regularly quoted as an expert in the press on these and related topics. She advised the Department of Trade and Industry on setting up the National Consumer Commission and the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission, created compliance tools to a large supermarket group, and regularly provides opinion work on the application of the Companies Act to clients ranging from listed corporates to medium-sized businesses to NGOs and various state bodies. She is an expert on drafting an industry code in terms of the CPA and POPI.

She has extensive experience in providing lectures, seminars and workshops on these topics and has presented over 75 seminars on the CPA, Companies Act and compliance to date.

Trudie has an interest in NGO law and applying the Constitution to achieve public benefit.

Our associate, Lauren Lewis

Lauren holds a BA degree in English and Politics and an LLB from the University of Cape Town. She completed articles of clerkship at a small general practice law firm, and then joined a firm as a litigation attorney focusing on litigation under the National Credit Act. We think consumer law is growing on her.

Lauren is a proactive litigator who loves her Border Collie, good food, literature and the outdoors. She’s a mean boulderer.

Our receptionist and PA, Rudolph Bekker

Rudolph has been in the legal support field for 12 years and had a much more interesting life before that in the Italian countryside. He says he loves working in the legal sector and it shows- he invariably goes the extra mile to provide service to clients.

He is dad to two girls in primary school, and loves running and hiking. He’s an organiser of Park Run and his personal trainer has recently gotten him into boxing and weightlifting too. Don’t challenge him to arm-wrestling.
